SSoD R.D., Miriam, Approved & Tested!
Hello my fit fam!
This month I am highlighting some star food brands that I have had the pleasure of discovering and nourishing my body with. They are all EASY foods. Meaning, no big fuss. Just my style! And, taste delicious… very important.
My decision tree in choosing these items is really to first look if the product has whole food ingredients, balance of macronutrients (protein and carbohydrates) and then of course taste.
I don’t just want a lot of fat or carbs at one time, I want to combine my macro’s. Why? Because that’s how our body’s blood sugar stays more steady and less spiky causing us to have stable moods and stable behaviors. MEANING, no impulse eating because of schizophrenic biochemistry. We want to avoid large shifts.
Here are the products I’m in to right now (I hyperlinked the amazon link to each product for shopping ease):
Protein Pancakes: (Kodiac Cakes) with Sun and Apple Butter
Why I dig them: They are high fiber, high protein pancakes from pretty decent ingredients. Plus, I’m full for hours after! I would simply add apple butter alone or if you want some extra protein and healthy fat add Sun Butter (below).
Super Star Protein Bar: Oatmega Bars
Why I dig them: They are the only bar I’m aware of that contains whey protein powder derived from grass fed cows, all natural ingredients, added fish oils, low in sugar, and high in fiber and protein. I mean, what?! Oatmega is a nutrition super star!
All Natural Energy Drink: HiBall
Why I dig them: I personally drink an energy drink pre-work out if I’m not feeling like acidic coffee. Doing caffeine prior to a workout is an ergogenic aid. I searched for some time to find an all-natural energy drink that tasted refreshing. I finally found one! It doesn’t contain a zillion mg of B vitamins (reasonable amount of 150% Daily Value_ you don’t want to be seeing above 200%). Also doesn’t include questionable additives and preservatives. Does include the herbs ginseng and guarana but in reasonable doses. Adding these stimulating herbs to caffeine does create a synergy effect (but this one doesn’t have super high amounts anyway.) Just be mindful of your blood pressure and how you feel after drinking one. Always consult with a physician you trust if you do have a chronic disease or are on medications.
Hopefully you like my highlights or at least find them useful for someone. Feel free to reach out and ask me about products you’re questioning.
Toodles!
Miriam
