Cat Kom’s Favorite Dynamic Stretches.
When you exercise, like Cat Kom at Studio SWEAT onDemand, you want to feel great and not worry about injury, right? Then you’ll want to add Cat’s 3 best dynamic exercises to warm up before nearly every type of workout. We especially love these before running, Spinning, and weightlifting because they’re combo moves that get your muscles warm and get you stretched out.
- Warmup Move 1 – Reverse Lunge Straight Arm Twist
a) Begin standing tall with arms overhead.
b) Step back into a reverse lunge, bringing your arms wide to a “T.”
c) Rotate your shoulders and torso toward your back leg, taking arms to a diagonal (your back arm pointed down, forward arm pointed up).
d) Arms should be in a straight line from fingertip to fingertip.
e) Unwind back up and repeat on other side. - Warmup Move 2 – The Kitchen Sink: Hamstrings, Quads, Calves, and Shoulders
a) Stand with right leg slightly ahead of left.
b) Take left hand and reach down to right toe.
c) Keep your back flat and legs straight.
d) Return to upright, lifting your right arm in the air.
e) At the same time, grab your left foot with your left hand (for a quad stretch).
f) Pop up on your right calf to get it nice and warm.
g) Repeat on the other side.
- Warmup Move 3 – Curtsy Lunge to Gate Swing
a) Go into a curtsy lunge, bringing your left leg behind your right.
b) Stand up, bring your left/back leg out and around, tap your foot down, then bring it back out and forward. This is like you’re lifting your leg back and forth over a low gate.
c) Keep your hips square to the front through this whole move.
d) Reverse to the other side.
