One thing is for sure, you can expect to sweat uncontrollably and feel a burn in your buttox. But how many calories are you actually burning?
SSoD’s Cat Kom & Bethany are here to answer your question!
The amount of calories you burn during a spin class depends on several variables.
Body weight, timeframe and the intensity of your efforts play a massive role in your caloric expenditure.
The size and weight of your body will directly affect how many calories you lose in class. Someone on the lighter spectrum will lose less calories than someone who is heavy. For example, a 150-pounder burns about 480 calories cycling at a moderate intensity for 60-minutes while a 200-pounder burns about 640 under the same conditions.
The length and intensity will also impact your loss in calories. The longer the class and the higher the intensity, the more calories you will burn.
Last but not least, a class that includes full body strength training will work more in your favor if your greatest concern is to lose as many calories from a workout as possible. Not only will you be burning during class, but since your muscles are activated, you’ll be burning for an additional two to three hours without having to break a sweat!
